A splash of Swedish colour lands in Clerkenwell

For their first ever London showroom, family-run Swedish furniture brand Johanson asked us to bring a little Trifle* magic to their new space—just in time for Clerkenwell Design Week 2024.

Having spotted our redesign for Deadgood earlier in the year, they invited us to help create a flexible, joyful and slightly unexpected showroom that could also moonlight as an event space, meeting hub and creative hangout. We said yes (obviously).

A bold lounge space, a modular burgundy sofa sits in front of a deep red velvet curtain. A olive rug is below and by the side of the central coffee table there is an armchair that is upholstered in a graphic green pattern.

We are delighted with our new Clerkenwell Space, designed by Trifle* and working closely with lead designer Nadia. Trifle* has demonstrated exceptional creative insight, offering a considered range of colour palettes which are really important to us.
A curated edit and focused space planning has led to a space we feel perfectly harmonises functionality with aesthetics. The space is both highly practical and visually compelling!

A modern showroom with a lot to say

Johanson’s product range is vast, colourful and cleverly made—with lightning-fast lead times and over 200 finish options. So our job? Let the furniture do the talking. The space may be small, but every corner pulls its weight. We divided it into functional zones, showcasing pieces in a way that’s practical, but still full of personality.

A vibrant tonal meeting table (with mix-and-match chairs) is used daily by the Johanson team. Dezibel acoustic panels double as colour-popping wall art. It’s a working showroom, yes—but it also makes a bold first impression.

The joy of colour (and a little ballet)

Lead designer Nadia took colour cues from a ballet she’d seen—where a rich brick backdrop stole the show. That same warmth runs through the space, softened by white pillars and muted flooring. It’s balanced, but never beige.

Because the space had to flex, we added a curtain-concealed display unit—a clever bit of joinery that keeps chairs close to hand, while allowing for a big ‘ta-da’ moment during launches or talks. And yes, there's a bar. Obviously.

Work meets play

Hospitality is a big part of Johanson’s world, so we brought that vibe in too. A compact bar area, finished in creamy whites and punchy reds, features their best-selling Jupiter stool and the joyfully comfortable Charlie sofa. The result? A space that’s as happy hosting a product launch as it is a Monday morning meeting.
